Answer these three questions about Chapter 8.
1) In your opinion, what is the point of graphing equations? What does it help us understand?
2) Do you feel like you understood all of the concepts prior to this test? Which was the most difficult concept for you to understand?
3) Make one goal for the 4th quarter, but do not make it about grades. For example, if you want your grade to be higher, what can you do to make that happen?
This blog will be graded based on the completeness and thoughtfulness of your responses.

1. I think the point of graphing equations is to help us practice giving two coordinates in places on a map. This helps us understand real-life situations that uses x-and-y-coordinates such as airport locations.
ReplyDelete2. For me, this chapter was very difficult to understand- especially the functions defined by tables and graphs. I don't think I understand this whole chapter thoroughly, and many sections still confuse me.
3. One goal for the 4th quarter could be coming in for help more often! I could come in asking more questions in lunch time until I understand the concepts properly.
I think graphing helps us understand how two points can match up, and about systems and patterns of numbers and results because you can see all the points on a line. It talks about how two points can be connected through different numbers, and through different. variables. The familiarity of x and y co-ordinates also makes working with 2 variables easier.
ReplyDeleteI think I did understand all of the concepts, but the hard part was dealing with all the things that we learned and remembering rise over run. What equations are linear, how to write or not write standard form was also confusing at first.
I want to be better at doing calculations in my head and concentrating harder, because oncce I feel too familiar with a concept, I tend to go willy nilly on it and forget, like how to write slopes. I also want to stop making small mistakes like negatives or plus and minus errors.
1. In my opinion, the point of graphing equations is to be able to use the date known and take a step further with it. Graphing equations will let us practice how to use the information we already know into a slightly different concept with a connection. It think this helps us understand how some information can be applied using other information.
ReplyDelete2. I do feel like I understood all the concepts in this chapter. There wasn’t a lot to learn, and I think I got a good idea what each concept is for and how to find/use it. The most difficult concept for me to understand was the one where we had to find x and y if they were positive numbers. I think this was a little difficult for me because using the value chart was sometimes confusing and I missed a couple of solutions.
3. One goal for the quarter left in the year would be that I really fully understand the concepts before moving on. I will try to improve my grade to my best abilities, but if that does not happen, then I would like to at least understand the concepts fully. Since I know what it is like to not know a concept when I should, I am going to make sure I know the concepts learned in this class for my future classes.
1) In my opinion, the point of graphing equations is to let us understand the equation better with coordinates. It helps us understand how slopes and coordinates are used to locate objects/ paths.
ReplyDelete2) I feel like I understand all of the concepts prior to this test. The difficult concept for me to understand was working with quadratic equations. Trying to graph them was very complicated and confusing.
3) I want to review the sections that were difficult for me. Although finals aren't coming up soon, I'd like to practice solving difficult problems.
1) I think the point of graphing equations are to help us practice for real life situations by using two coordinates or slope. By using coordinates, it will be easier for us to find locations of places on a map.
ReplyDelete2) This chapter was one of the easy chapters in this book because lot of things in this chapter were things that I learned in seventh grade. However, writing equations in two different ways: Slope-intercept form and Standard Form was kind of confusing.
3) One goal for the 4th quarter is to bring textbooks every class. I always didn't bring it because it was to heavy. I shouldn't be lazy in this quarter.
1) The point of graphing equations is to help us visualize how the equation would actually look like if it was shown on a graph. It helps us to understand how it actually looks like and what you're actually making. >__<
ReplyDelete2) I think I understood all the concepts before this test! The most difficult concept was ... making a graph with x and y intercepts. Don't laugh at me ): Like, I got like the x and y intercepts, but how are you supposed to graph them~??! Are you supposed to find the slope and then make the slope intercept form again? NOOO that's not how you do it cause it's not what the question asked us. So if you have x=something and y=something, how are you supposed to even graph them??? -_____- That's basically the hardest thing for me, even though it's really easy for everyone else... unfortunately. :D
3) One goal for the 4th quarter........hm.....
Well doesn't everyone want their grades to be higher? Ahaha. Maybe like doing homework ALL the time and taking advantage of bonus worksheets and completing them with all the work done. That would surely boost up my grade :D AHEM i mean... It would help me........................."understand" the topic more. ^^ Oh, and I think when I need help, I should REALLY come in during school and after school, but not before school cause we can't go upstairs until 7:30 -__- and that should seriously be changed. Anyways, the two things that would help me would be: taking advantage of bonus things and to come in during class. ^^

ReplyDelete1) I think that the point of graphing equations was to see in one look if our equations were correct, and to find the slopes in a more time consuming but a easier and reliable way. And to see if your answers were correct.
ReplyDelete2) I think i understood most of the concepts, but I think I need to work a little bit more on the types of intercepts like a Y int equation etc
3) One goal would be to come in and ask about things i dont know about and try to get things done in time, and try to understand everything by investing some time into math
1.I think the point of graphing is to help us view and understand the concept or information easier, rather than seeing the information one by one. For example, the stock prices are easier to see with the graphs, instead of numbers.
ReplyDelete2. I thought this chapter was a little bit easier. This is because once I got familiar to graphing, everything else was very easy. This chapter had lots of calculations, which I do well in. I think the most difficult concept for me was the standard form because I was confusing it with the slope intercept form.
3. One goal I'd like to achieve in 4th quarter is participating and questioning more often .I often do not participate much, and don't ask many questions, This is why I get confused easily, since I try to figure it by myself. Also, I need to participate more often in class so that I know which concepts I don't understand.
1) I think there are several uses of point graphing in real life, but here's just one. This does not necessarily apply to linear graphs, just to quadratic ones. (Hope it's okay...) When you graph a quadratic function, it forms a parabola. You could do (sort of) complicated calculations and find out how far something is going to fly when it is launched into the air by looking at the path of the parabola. So, you could find out the highest point of the object, the time it takes for the object to fall to the ground, etc.
ReplyDelete2) I don't think that this chapter was very hard. All the lessons were those I had gone over in Pre-Algebra, so I could review the parts that I hadn't understood then. Overall, this chapter wasn't really hard. There wasn't really have a most difficult concept to understand, but finding out the equation of a graph with the slope and y-intercept was interesting because it was kind of new to me.
3) A goal I could make for the 4th quarter could be not making stupid mistakes. Half the time, I miss 100% on tests because I made one or two mistakes on questions that I knew the answers to. Maybe checking over my work and solving the problems more slowly will help. (Hopefully -_-)

1. Graphing equation had helped us to understand better on how to place the given equation on correct place. In 7th grade we only had to graph the given number. But, now we have to solve an equation to find a number to graph.
ReplyDelete2. I think this chapter was fairly okay. I didn't really have a section that was difficult for me to understand. Most difficult concept in this chapter was two equation that is parallel but different y intercept.
3. For 4th quarter I would like to come in to ask more help and ask during class time so I could understand the concept completely.
1) The point of graphing equations is to help us visualize how the equation would actually look like if it was shown on a graph. It helps us to understand easily by showing the equations more visually, which makes it easier for us to interpret the information.
ReplyDelete2) I don't think that I understood all the concepts... which would mean that I flunked the test! I forgot everything that I learned in Pre-algebra and the formulas were kind of complicated. using slope intercept was easy, but other that that this chapter was CONFUSING.
3) I really should ask what I don't get. I learned that painfully after this test. And finish my homework on time.
Answer these three questions about Chapter 8.
ReplyDelete1) In your opinion, what is the point of graphing equations? What does it help us understand?
IN my opinion, the point of graphing equations is to help us understand and check our equations with the coordinates and makes it easier and faster to solve a standard and slope intercept equations. Its also useful when we looking at the map for locations ext. esp social studies where we check the location of the country...
2) Do you feel like you understood all of the concepts prior to this test? Which was the most difficult concept for you to understand?
i think i understood most of the concepts prior to the test but the most difficult concept for me was the last part in 8-5.
3) Make one goal for the 4th quarter, but do not make it about grades. For example, if you want your grade to be higher, what can you do to make that happen?
My goal for the 4th quarter is to be able to understand the equations and concept perfectly so i dont forget how to do things suddenly in the middle of the test like today. I hope i can also ask more questions in class

ReplyDelete1. I think the point of graphing equations is predicting the number that will come next because the numbers are in a straight line and we can see which next number will keep the line going. I think it helps us understand the relationship between numbers because they all have a slope.
2. I think I understood most concepts but since I missed many classes I might have not done my best on the test. One of the hardest concept for me was the parallel... I didn't understand why if the slope is the same, the lines are parallel.
3. One goal for 4th quarter is finding my textbook... And also paying a bit more attention in class. I have trouble with my homework very often so knowing the concept a little bit more would be a good goal.
Wow. I was expecting to come to this blog ready to dish out some lame grades for some lame answers, but I'm blown away here. Very thought-provoking, honest, reflective responses! Well done everyone!
ReplyDeleteA few things stuck out that I'd like to address: First of all, Justin, I love your goal for the 4th quarter. Secondly, Brian, if the lines had different slopes, they would eventually intersect somewhere, meaning that they cannot be parallel. And Jane, once you've found the x- and y-intercepts, all you have to do is plot those two points on the x- and y-axes. Remember: x-intercept = point where the line crosses the x-axis.
Great job, everyone!
1. Graphing is the easiest way and we learned it in last chapter, so we are using graph.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, nothing was hard.
3. I want to take test more carefully and take more time. I always finish test up quickly and make some mistakes.
